Sullinger, Barnes, Jones, Lamb, Taylor Named To Preseason All-America Team

Oct 31, 2011 3:37 PM

Jared Sullinger was a unanimous preseason All-America pick, headlining a group that also includes Harrison Barnes, Terrence Jones, Jeremy Lamb and Jordan Taylor.

Taylor was the only senior named to the first team.

"I just hope he doesn't think he has to score 40 a game this year," coach Bo Ryan said. "I think we're going to be in trouble if he does. He doesn't. He wants to be even more consistent. He wants to be more inclusive with his teammates, maybe in transition. There are different things we're looking at in trying to get done with a different-sized team maybe on the floor."

Willie Cauley Commits To Kentucky

Oct 31, 2011 2:48 PM

Willie Cauley has committed to Kentucky as a member of the class of 2012.

Cauley is a 7-foot, 230 pound center generally considered as a top-40 member of his class.

Cauley plays at Olathe (Kan.) Northwest.

“I would say he’s a very, very high-level run and jump athlete,” Rivals.com Eric Bossi said. “And he’s also very fluid from side-to-side. He can get from one end of the floor to the other better (than most big men). His offense needs some work but I wouldn’t say he’s totally raw.

Laettner's Villains Defeat Big Blue All-Stars At Rupp Arena

Oct 25, 2011 11:34 AM

Christian Laettner's Villains team defeated the Big Blue All-Stars by a final score of 152-149 in overtime at Rupp Arena on Monday.

Laettner became a villain in Kentucky lore in the 1992 East regional final when he stomped on Aminu Timberlake just a few minutes before hitting a buzzer-beating jumper on a baseball pass from Grant Hill.

Laettner played up the theatrics on Monday and was ejected with two ceremonial technical fouls.

"That's just part of my personality," he said. "And I think it's something that made me good. ... You have to feed off that a little bit."

Laettner suggested UK fans were justified in their disdain. "They should be mad at me for what I did to their team," he said. "... The average everyday person loved that (UK) team."

The Villains were led by former Florida star Corey Brewer's 32 points, while Jodie Meeks had 42 points.

Enes Kanter made his Rupp Arena debut in the game.

Kentucky Begins To Show Interest In Justise Winslow

Oct 17, 2011 3:27 PM

Justise Winslow, one of the top 20 prospects of the 2014 class is now receiving interest from Kentucky.

Arizona, Houston and Baylor are “showing the most interest,” while he also has offers from Arizona State, Florida, Rice, Texas and Harvard.

“A lot of schools, I just have to stay humble and not let it all get to my head,” Winslow said. “I’m going to wait around and see how it plays out.”

Winslow's father Rickie Winslow was a member of Houston's famous Phi Slamma Jamma team and a first round pick in 1987 by Chicago.

“I know about Kentucky,” he said. “I know it’s the dribble-drive (offense) and most of the guys are one-and-done when they go there.”

Kentucky Hopes To Improve Transition For Freshmen

Oct 15, 2011 5:39 PM

As has become the norm for the John Calipari-era of Kentucky, the team is loaded with highly talented freshmen.

Kentucky hopes to have more success during the early part of the season with the likes of Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Marquis Teague than they did last year with Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones.

“We have to take more time and help them along from the beginning," senior Darius Miller said. “We didn’t do a good job of that last year and I think that’s why we struggled. I think a lot of times, we found ourselves standing back and watching them. We thought they had all this talent and hype, so we should be able to just them go. We can’t do that. We have to help them and lead them."
